Flintshire countryside manager John Richards said: "The collection of buildings below Meadow Villas off the Holywell to Greenfield road were constructed in 1787 by Thomas Williams, known locally as the Copper King, and housed the rolling and hammer mill of the Greenfield Copper and Brass Company, where copper sheets, bolts and nails were made from copper brought from the Parys Mine in Anglesey.
