In 1924, Detroit Edison brought on line perhaps the third pulverized coal power plant built in the United States. The plant, located 18 miles south of Detroit, was intended to absorb much of the burgeoning demand for electricity in the Detroit economy [3]. The plant, located adjacent to the Trenton Channel of the Detroit River, was accessible to two railroads for coal delivery.
