Chromium is a naturally occurring element found in rocks, animals, plants, soil, and in volcanic dust and gases. Chromite deposits are mined by both underground and surface techniques. Chromite is commonly found as brittle masses in peridotites, serpentines, and other basic igneous and metamorphic rocks.
